Fun in the Sun

It sure is getting hot outside… The Clubhouse found the only solution to the heat was to embrace it heads-on, well after a long lathering of strong sun block. We blew up the inflatable toddler pool and began splashing and having a great time in the sun. The hardest part of all was getting the kids to come inside for naps; they would have stayed outdoors all day if they could. Of course they were reassured that the pool will still be there after they finished their naps and reluctantly, but finally, conceded and came inside. We can’t wait to tell you about the rest of the fun we are planning this summer: trips to the park, our Elmo sprinkler, and a special trip to the ZOO!

Kids in the Kitchen

The Clubhouse wafted with the smell of cinnamon, brown sugar and homemade strawberry-apple jam today. All the children, well those who could sit nicely at the table, worked together to make delicious and nutritious granola bars and strawberry cereal bars. Best of all was enjoying the treats warm from the oven. They sat around blowing their bars and eating happily. Little did they know the bars were filled with whole rolled oats and wheat germ; all the nutrients were hidden beneath jam and a bit of sugar. Below are the recipes, enjoy!

CHEWY GRANOLA BARS

1 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
2 tbsp. honey
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1 c. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. oatmeal
1 1/4 c. crisp rice cereal
1 c. chopped nuts
1 c. craisins or raisins
1/2 c. wheat germ

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9x13 pan.

In a large bowl, beat brown sugar, sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Add honey, vanilla, egg; mix well. Gradually blend in flour, cinnamon, baking powder and salt. By hand, literally, stir in remaining ingredients.

Press firmly in bottom of prepared pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes or until edges are light golden brown and center appears set. Cool, cut into bars.

OATMEAL JELLY BARS

2 c. rolled oats
1 c. flour
3/4 c. packed brown sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 c. butter
1 c. strawberry jelly or preferred jelly

Mix well with fingertips, oats, flour, sugar, salt and butter. Pat 1/2 of mixture into greased 9'x9'x2" pan. Spread jelly evenly over dough. Sprinkle remaining mixture over jelly. Lightly flatten with fingertips. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven, 25 to 30 minutes or until golden brown, cool in pan, cut into 24 bars.

FAQs

Q How many children are in the clubhouse and what is their average age?

A There is a small teacher/child ratio of around 2:1; typically there are 4 or 5 children throughout the day. Children six weeks to five years are welcome. Upon approval of The Clubhouse staff older children are accepted for special events. Currently, we have children ranging from six weeks to two years old.

Q What are your hours of operation?

A We are open from 7:00 am until 5:00 pm Monday through Thursday and until 3:00 pm on Fridays for the observance of Shabbos. Each family may create an individualized plan within those hours as needed; this can vary week to week.

Q Will I be billed for hours which I did not use?

A Hours are recorded daily and payments are due after each four week period. All cancellations must have twenty-four hours notice for full refund or twelve hours prior for half refund. Same day cancellations will be charged the full arranged hours.

Q Is The Clubhouse a licensed daycare?

A Since we are under the minimum requirement of children for a license the clubhouse has not yet registered as a licensed daycare. If our child count increases to meet the quota needed for the license we will begin the application process. Never-the-less, we still meet all space safety requirements for a Colorado Daycare Facility.

Food and Snacks

Food and Snacks are available for a small additional cost. Making lunch and snacks for your children everyday can get exhaustive and time consuming, so The Clubhouse has an option of providing healthy and nutritious food and snacks for you. Occasionally the children will get involved and help with the process of making the food, including Challah every friday. Together we mix, stir, beat, and grate fresh food. Many parents have told us how hard it is convince their children to eat their vegetables, this left The Clubhouse with no other option but to make it our mission to 'trick' the children to eat their greens. Vegetables are hidden beneath a hearty whole grain muffin, grated inside their spaghetti sauce and pureed into their yogurt smoothies. You can feel confident that at the nursery your child will eat well. We have a strictly Kosher home and do not allow non Kosher foods to be brought in The Clubhouse.

Outdoor Time

Outdoor Time is something we look forward to throughout the winter season. As soon as the weather starts to clear we grab our light jackets and head outside. The Clubhouse has a large backyard area for children to play and burn off energy. Fresh air is great for young children, not only is it great exercise, but it has been proven that children who play outdoors build necessary immunities, which means less trips to the doctor's office. Outside we have a baby swing, toddler cars to drive around, a Fisher Price slide, balls to toss and catch, and a children's barn to play inside, as well as lots of space to run around.

Movement

Movement is very important for proper development of your children's major motor skills. The Clubhouse offers plenty of space for the children to run around and have fun. There are movement options for children of various ages: a toddler slide, which promotes climbing muscles and balance; several bikes, to teach children other forms of movement; and an exersaucer for a younger baby, which gives them an opportunity to strengthen sitting muscles and exercise their legs. Everyday we use classical music and common sing-alongs to enourage everyone to dance and sing. Diana Bales, a qualified pediatrician, spoke about music's enhancement for brain development in her article "Building Baby's Brain." She stated, "Researchers believe that musical training actually creates new pathways in the brain."

The Imagination Center

The Imagination Center is filled with toys that help children improve social skills and expand their creativity. Both boys and girls love to play in the kitchen and pretend to cook a five course lunch. The workbench is a great place to drill out any issues that may arise between one another and just have fun. Playing together gives the foundation children need to be successful later in life. Whether it is an interest in being a great mother or working with plastic tools to build a house, children are excited to explore the world of imagination. As the children grow older the imagination center is somewhere for them to express their desires to act like mommy and daddy or be one of the big kids for a short time.

The Learning Circle

The Learning Circle provides each child, regardless of their age, an excellent opportunity to learn in a structured environment. From the child's first day in The Clubhouse we dive right into a pool of different science and math studies - of course we are not learning algebra or calculus, buood learning skills start early! We analyze the stages of a butterfly's life cycle and examine plant life, during the summer season we go outside and plant our own garden and work to help it grow. The learning circle is a chance to discuss the weather and make predictions on what it will be like tomorrow. Children learn countless math skills from hands-on activities: counting the days of the week and month, we also discuss different shapes and colors through 3D comprehension tools. This helps fine motor skills and language development while playing, singing, and socializing.

The Reading Center

The Reading Center is an inviting corner for children to snuggle up on the animal pillows or recline on a reading chair to enjoy a good book. All of our books are age appropriate and full of educational stories. The shelves are organized to allow the children to view the fronts of the books; the cover pictures encourage children to read the books. We make an effort to keep the book area clean at all times as well as easily accessible for the children. Weekly, the books are switched to keep the children interested and anticipating the new book selections. Our reading center helps create cognitive and developmental skills and a desire to read and explore books.

Our Staff

Morah Sarah Grazi, Director
Morah Grazi began as a tutor and loved babysitter in the community. Passionate about the development of young children she moved to Florida to work as a paraprofessional at Hillel Community Day School in Miami, eventually building her way up to Co-teacher for 5th and 6th grade Math. After moving back to Colorado, she joined the staff at Denver Academy of Torah as the afternoon Preschool teacher. She left DAT to stay home with her now 21 month old daughter and opened The Clubhouse in her basement. A vast education in pedagogy and English BA degree has helped her succeed as an educator. On her off days she loves taking her daughter to museums and parks.

Morah Grace Friedman, Assistant Director
Morah Grace, though still in her youth, has displayed a remarkable love for education and a desire to pursue a teaching certificate to one day teach in her own classroom. Throughout high school and now through her college years, she spends her nights diligently working on her studies and as a part-time nanny. Morah Grace never takes a night off from children, but spends them babysitting for various families in the community. Recently she has begun her own Torah class, teaching Rabbi Noach Weinberg's "48 ways to wisdom" to young professionals.
